MEDSt@rts, a project to promote microcredit for startups development in the Mediterranean basin, to showcase first results
The public mid-term conference will be held On November 4, at 10:00 am in South Lebanon
Sidon/South Lebanon - In the frame of the EU-funded MEDSt@rts Project “Med Microfinance support system for start-ups”, the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Sidon and South Lebanon will organize the public mid–term conference on Thursday 4th of November, 2021, at 10:00 am (Beirut time), Live at Jiyeh Marina Resort, online via Zoom platform and live streaming channels. This hybrid event will update stakeholders on MEDSt@rts activities, aimed at promoting inclusive business creation paths in five countries. Conference sessions will include speeches and interventions about the project and similar EU initiatives, presentations by partner countries on microfinance sector and perspectives, and will end with presentation of entrepreneurs and start-up projects supported by MEDSt@rts.
MEDSt@rts - “Med microfinance support system for start-ups” is a project funded by the European Union, under the ENI CBC MED Programme. The Programme is managed by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia (Italy) and aims to promote cross-border cooperation in the Mediterranean region. Fondazione di Sardegna is the Lead Beneficiary and is also leading the project, who started on October 10th, 2019. The other partners are: SFIRS (Italy), Arab Italian Cooperation Chamber (Italy), Chamber of Achaia (Greece), Sfax Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Tunisia), LEADERS (Palestine) and Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Sidon and South Lebanon (Lebanon).
This 2 million euros project (€ 2.831.039,71 – 90% EU Contribution) is expected to contribute the promotion of social inclusion for vulnerable, unemployed young people and women by providing the following: the creation of 75 new enterprises and up to 225 new jobs, the development of a system for access to credit mixing direct support (sub-grant) and crowd funding/business angles to support non -bankable entrepreneurs and start-ups in sectors such as digitilization, sustainable tourism, agrifood, eco-design and craftsmanship, a Mediterranean network between microfinance and microcredit organizations for business development.
